‘Get the f*** out of my business right now,’ says US-based company in a Slack message to employees after they missed a meeting.
A US-based CEO has sparked outrage online after firing 99 employees in a single sweep for missing a meeting via Slack. A Reddit user, claiming to be a recently hired intern at the company, shared a screenshot of the CEO’s fiery Slack message, which has since gone viral on social media.
The company, reportedly a marketplace for musical instruments, saw its workforce reduced to just 11 after the CEO, identified as Baldvin, posted a scathing message in the company’s Slack channel. According to the intern, the mass termination occurred just an hour into their first day on the job.
“Out of 110 people, only 11 were present this morning. Those 11 get to stay. The rest of you are terminated,” he wrote, concluding with a harsh directive: “Get the f*** out of my business right now.”
The leaked screenshot reveals Baldvin accusing the absent employees of breaching their contractual obligations.
“For those of you who did not show up to the meeting this morning, consider this your official notice: you’re all fired,” the CEO wrote.
He further explained: “You failed to do what you agreed to, you failed to complete your part of the contract, and you failed to show up to the meetings you were supposed to attend and work for. I will cancel all agreements between us. Please return anything you have, sign out of all accounts, and remove yourself from this Slack immediately.”
The incident quickly gained traction online, drawing a mix of shock and skepticism. Some Reddit users speculated that the CEO may have failed to communicate the meeting’s schedule, leading to the widespread absence.
“I assume the CEO failed to inform the team about that meeting. I cannot believe that 99 people would skip a meeting if they were properly notified,” one commenter wrote.
Others suggested financial struggles might be at the root of the mass firing. “The company is probably neck-deep in debt,” one user wrote.
The episode also spurred anecdotes of toxic workplace leadership. One commenter shared, “I once had the CEO of my company message me via Teams on a Friday at 7 pm (my shift ends at 5 pm). When I came in on Monday, I had five messages stretched across the weekend about how I’m not a team player.”
The viral post has reignited debates about toxic leadership and workplace culture, with many calling for greater accountability in how companies treat their employees.
