The Indian junior men’s hockey team faced a 1-5 defeat against Spain in their third and final pool stage match of the ongoing 4 Nations Tournament on Tuesday.

Spain began the match strongly, scoring twice within the opening minutes. Pere Amat converted a penalty corner in the 2nd minute, followed by a field goal from Santi Martin in the 3rd minute, giving Spain an early 2-0 lead.

Both teams played end-to-end hockey in the second quarter, with India seeking a breakthrough while Spain aimed to extend their advantage. However, neither side managed to capitalize on their chances, leaving the score 2-0 in favour of Spain at halftime.

Spain regained control in the third quarter, taking advantage of India’s defensive errors. Pere Amat scored his second goal in the 42nd minute through another penalty corner. Just a minute later, Josep Martin added a field goal, increasing Spain’s lead to 4-0.

In the fourth quarter, Spain further extended their lead with a fifth goal, thanks to a well-executed penalty corner by Mario Mena in the 51st minute. India quickly responded, as Araijeet Singh Hundal scored a field goal in the 52nd minute, reducing the deficit and avoiding a clean sweep.

With this result, India concluded their pool stage matches, having previously faced Germany and Australia. The round-robin format of the 4 Nations Tournament involves all four participating teams – India, Germany, Australia, and Spain – playing each other once. Based on the standings, the top two teams will compete in the final, while the bottom two will play in the 3rd/4th place playoff.
