As many as 17 players who are playing in the IPL 2025 have been picked in India’s squad for the upcoming five-match Test series against England starting June 20 in Leeds.

The Indian men’s cricket team will face England in a five-match Test series. The series opener will be played in Leeds from June 20 to 24, and the next four matches are scheduled to take place in Birmingham, Lord’s, Manchester and The Oval, respectively. Chief selector Ajit Agarkar announced India’s 18-member squad for the high-profile away series on Saturday (May 24) in Mumbai.

Of those 18 players, 17 are plying their trade in the ongoing 2025 edition of the Indian Premier League. As many as five players from the Gujarat Titans squad are picked for the England series, and three players each are from the Delhi Capitals and Lucknow Super Giants. Surprisingly, no player from Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Kolkata Knight Riders has managed to make the cut.

Here’s a look at IPL 2025 team-wise breakdown of India’s squad for the five-match series against England:

Gujarat Titans (5): Shubman Gill, B Sai Sudharsan, Washington Sundar, Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna

GT captain Gill will captain Team India in England. He was appointed as India’s new Test captain on Saturday. His opening partner Sudharsan has earned his maiden India Test call-up for the England series, whereas Sundar, Siraj and Krishna have managed to retain their places in the Indian Test team.

Delhi Capitals (3): KL Rahul, Kuldeep Yadav, Karun Nair

KL Rahul in all likelihood will open for India against England after Rohit Sharma’s retirement, and his DC teammates Karun and Kuldeep are making a comeback to the Indian Test team. Kuldeep last played a Test for India in October 2024, and Karun is back in the side after eight years.

Lucknow Super Giants (3): Rishabh Pant, Akash Deep, Shardul Thakur

LSG captain Pant will be Gill’s deputy and India’s first-choice wicketkeeper-batter in England. Shardul is back in the Test team after more than a year, and Akash Deep has managed to retain his place.

Rajasthan Royals (2): Yashasvi Jaiswal, Dhruv Jurel

Jaiswal and Jurel have been regular members of the Indian Test team for more than a year now. They impressed with their performances in the last home series against England and would like to repeat the same now in the next couple of months as well.

Mumbai Indians (1): Jasprit Bumrah

MI’s Bumrah is the world No. 1 bowler in Test cricket, and he will lead India’s pace attack in England.

Chennai Super Kings (1): Ravindra Jadeja

World No. 1 Test all-rounder Jadeja is the most experienced player in the Indian squad for the England series, and he is expected to play a big role both with the bat and ball.

Punjab Kings (1): Arshdeep Singh

Arshdeep has earned his maiden India Test call-up for the upcoming series against England. The left-arm pacer is PBKS’ all-time leading wicket-taker in the world’s richest franchise cricket league.

Sunrisers Hyderabad (1): Nitish Kumar Reddy

Nitish made his Test debut in the last series against Australia and played all five matches. Despite his ordinary show in IPL 2025, he has managed to retain his side in the Indian Test team.
