Songs For Kids is a non-profit organisation that offers music mentorship to children and young adults with disabilities, illnesses and injuries.

In a display of music and community spirit, Australian rock band King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard recently took the stage at Atlanta’s Fabulous Fox Theatre, joining forces with the Songs For Kids Band to perform their track ‘Flight b741!’. This collaboration brought together the band and a group of talented young musicians involved in the Songs For Kids programme, which supports children and young people facing disabilities, injuries and illnesses.
The performance at the Fox Theatre was part of the ‘Young’ live series, a unique programme in which the Songs for Kids Band has showcased renditions of songs by artists like Weezer, Tiny Habits, Noah Kahan, and Waxahatchee. Some shows have even included collaborations with the original artists, such as the Backstreet Boys and My Morning Jacket. King Gizzard’s participation marked another milestone in this series, with the Australian collective blending their distinctive musical style with the youthful energy of the Songs For Kids Band.

This comes shortly after the King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard’s announcement of their upcoming orchestral tour, set for 2025. The ‘Phantom Island’ tour, which the group revealed on social media on October 29, will see King Gizzard performing with a full orchestra led by conductor and music director Sarah Hicks, alongside city-specific orchestras. While most dates will feature orchestral performances, select shows will remain true to the band’s rock roots. Beginning in July and continuing through August, the ‘Phantom Island’ tour will span 11 shows across the United States.
The Songs For Kids initiative is dedicated to creating unique musical experiences for children, empowering them with confidence and the opportunity to share their creativity on stage. A statement on the programme’s website highlights the significance of these performances. It says, “Songs For Kids provides music mentorship and interactive programs for kids and young adults with illnesses, injuries and disabilities. We focus on creative expression, encourage exploration in a safe space, and never lose sight of the fun.”
