The CNBC-TV18 India Business Leader Awards (IBLA) marked its 20th edition on December 7, 2024, in Mumbai.

Minister of Road Transport & Highways Nitin Gadkari on Saturday emphasised the need to explore hydrogen as a key fuel source for the future, highlighting the potential of biomass and biodigester technologies to produce hydrogen and CNG.

Speaking at the CNBC-TV18 India Business Leader Awards in Mumbai, Gadkari added India will lead the world in alternate and biofuels within the next 10 years.

Gadkari also stated that the total toll income currently stands at Rs 52,000 crore. Within two years, this income is projected to reach Rs 1.4 lakh crore.

“We are building green express highways, and there is no issue regarding funding because every project we undertake is economically viable,” he added.

Support From the Finance Ministry

Gadkari also said, “We also have strong support from the Finance Ministry, with a budget of Rs 2.8 lakh crore. Most importantly, our Prime Minister has prioritised infrastructure development, focusing on sectors such as water, power, transport, and communication.”

He also underlined the government’s ambitious goal of reducing logistics costs to single-digit levels within the next 2-3 years, which would significantly enhance India’s economic competitiveness.

Addressing challenges in infrastructure development, such as those faced in the Morbi-Bangla Link project, Gadkari stressed the importance of innovative strategies and collaborative efforts to overcome obstacles and ensure timely execution.
