Donald Trump dispelled claims he called into Fox News after Kamala Harris’ speech at the Democratic National Convention on Thursday, alleging host Bret Baier called him.
The former president zeroed in on a Saturday opinion piece by New York Times columnist Maureen Dowd, who may have implied he was the one who phoned Baier and Martha Martha MacCallum.
‘Bret Baier of FoxNews called me, I didn’t call him, just prior to the Kamala Convention speech, and asked me if I would like to critique her after she is finished. I agreed to do so!’ Trump wrote in a Sunday morning Truth Social post.
He then called out Dowd specifically as a member of the ‘Fake News’ media.
‘The Fake News, like often “gilted” Maureen Dowd of the failing New York Times, wrote incorrectly that I was making the calls. WRONG!!!’
Donald Trump claims he didn’t call into Fox News on Thursday following the conclusion of Kamala Harris’ speech at the Democratic National Convention. He went on to call himself the ‘Ratings Machine’ and said ‘I don’t have to make calls to go on TV, or anything else’
Trump made this post on Truth Social attacking Maureen Dowd on Sunday morning
He continued: ‘I don’t have to make calls to go on TV, or anything else – They call me! It’s called Ratings, I guess, and I’m the “Ratings Machine!”‘
The apparent offending line in Dowd’s article came roughly midway through the piece, where she also attacked Trump for his many Truth Social posts criticizing Harris’ speech live.
‘He followed up the posts with a scream-of-consciousness call to Fox News, filibustering Bret Baier and Martha McCallum for 10 minutes until Baier abruptly cut him off to throw to the Greg Gutfeld comedy show,’ Dowd wrote.
Many liberals, not just Dowd, seized on this moment where Baier does in fact interrupt Trump while he’s still speaking and transition over to Gutfeld’s late night show.
Gutfeld even made a mention of it as his show started.
‘That wasn’t my fault, Donald Trump,’ he said.
Trump appeared on Fox News after the fourth night of the DNC concluded to talk about Kamala Harris’ speech
During her speech, Kamala Harris called Trump an ‘unserious man,’ mentioning January 6 and the crimes he’s been accused of
Throughout Harris’ speech, Trump repeatedly called her a ‘radical’ while testing out his new nickname ‘Comrade Kamala Harris.’
He also attacked her for not mentioning China, fracking, and energy, while also saying she didn’t adequately tackle the issue of Russia and Ukraine.
His foreign policy attacks continued, with him claiming Harris ‘will take us into a Nuclear World War III!’
Harris, at the podium, focused on Trump’s character, calling him an ‘unserious man.’
She noted his actions on January 6th, when his supporters rushed the Capitol in a bid to overturn the results of the 2020 election.
She also made mention of the crimes he’s been accused of, and the hush money case in Manhattan where he was convicted.
Many political analysts have suggested that Kamala Harris is currently enjoying a honeymoon period after taking over from Joe Biden as 2024 nominee.
Polls still show an extremely close race between Harris and Trump, with the Republican nominee still a favorite among many to win in November.
