In a dramatic incident, a man in the United States drove his car through the front of a dealership hours after purchasing it due to a dispute over the return policy of the vehicle. The incident took place in Sandy, Utah, after the man was told he could not return the “as is” vehicle.
Michael Murray, 35, had purchased a $4,000 Subaru Outback from the Tim Dahle Mazda Dealership on Monday, according to police. However, he later discovered mechanical issues with the car and demanded a full refund immediately, describing the vehicle as a “lemon”.
The Mazda dealership declined Murray’s request for a full refund citing the “as is” terms of the return policy, which infuriated him further and he threatened to drive his car through the front door. “The finance manager was like hey I can’t calm this guy down. He’s heading out to the car. He’s threatening to do this. We rallied everybody in the dealership to clear the area,” said the dealership’s platform manager, Tyler Slade.

After 4 pm, Murray made good on his promise and rammed the car through the front door of the membership. Luckily, there was no one near the front desk as the employee was not working on that day. “Just a slam and bam. It sounded like this big TV monitor was crashing down,” Slade said.
Murray was swiftly arrested after the incident and faces felony charges of criminal mischief and reckless endangerment. “Almost 30 years [in this business] I’ve never seen anything like this. Very concerned for this person and the emotional state he was in,” said Slade. The dealership sustained an estimated $10,000 in damage.
Aylin Hernandez, an employee of the dealership, said she was relieved that she was not working on the day of the incident. What would’ve happened? Who knows – it could’ve been fatal. He came back, but with a rage… without thinking, he just acted out in rage,” she said.
