Apple has made big changes in recent years to comply with the new rules and that is going to force the company to make this call.
Apple’s big iPhone change in 2023 is going to put an end to the sales of the iPhone 14 series in select regions very soon. The company was forced into adopting USB C for its iPhones and other devices by the stringent European Union (EU) tech rules, and now the same rule is going to ensure that Apple stops selling the lightning-based iPhones in the region from 2025 onwards.
Apple is reportedly going to make this decision by the end of this month, which is when the new EU rules come into effect.
iPhone 14 Sales Stop: But Why
As we pointed out, the USB C standard rule was first brought into action by the EU regulators, and according to a France-based blog iGeneration, Apple will stop the iPhone 14 and 14 Plus sales in the EU region, both online and offline stores, from December 28 which is less than two weeks from now.
The company is tipped to remove the models from next week itself, and in countries like Switzerland, the changes could happen earlier than others. In addition to the iPhone 14 series, Apple is also selling the iPhone SE 2022 model that will also face the cull from the company before the start of 2025. Having said that, the report also points out that Apple’s Authorised reseller will have them in stock till they last.
Apple has not confirmed the update but it seems going by the strict deadline from the EU, the company would understandably have to comply in order to avoid facing penalties.
The company could also remove other lightning-based devices in its lineup to fall in line with the new EU rules. Apple has already made a dramatic switch to USB-C across all its products, and soon we might see it happen with the iPhone SE 4 model that is tipped to launch in early 2025.
iPhone 14 Sales In Other Countries: Will It Continue?
Apple usually takes off older models from its catalogue, but even then you can easily buy the iPhone 14 series in countries like India through online and offline sellers. So, if you are using an iPhone 14 model, and are worried about its future support from the company, you have nothing to worry about, at least for another three to four years.
