Marc Cucurella was elated after Chelsea secured a narrow win over Brentford in their Premier League game at home on Monday, December 16. Cucurella struck the opening goal of the match which his team won 2-1. The Spanish winger saw a yellow card late in the second half for committing a foul on Fabio Carvalho. He again got booked after the final whistle due to unsportsmanlike conduct. Many fans were left in shock, anticipating how Cucurella saw the red card after the match was finished. The referee later confirmed that the reason for his second yellow was an “aggressive attitude”.

Despite his dismissal, Cucurella was happy to contribute to the crucial win. He congratulated Chelsea through a social media post. Cucurella dropped a few glimpses of the match on Instagram with the caption– “Good win at home to finish off the week. We go again.”

Due to his red card, Chelsea will now miss the service of Cucurella in the next Premier League fixture against Everton. During the post-match press conference, club boss Enzo Maresca was asked if he knew why Cucurella was sent off at the end of the game. In response, Maresca revealed his chat with the referee.

“I asked the referee and he said to me that the second yellow card was for bad attitude. When the final whistle was blown, I was with the coaching staff, hugging them and celebrating so I did not see anything. I don’t know,” Maresca said, as per Sport Bible.

Cucurella was also accused of faking a head injury in the dying moments of the home game. He collapsed onto the ground following a tussle with Vitaly Janelt. The Brentford midfielder might have been penalised for the foul but many were not happy with Cucurella’s gesture. A fan shared a clip of the incident on X and wrote, “That should be a 10-game ban for Cucurella… Faking a head injury is the lowest of the low.”

Chelsea have remained unbeaten in seven matches across all competitions. After the home victory over Brentford, the Blues remain second in the Premier League standings with 34 points in 16 matches. They will next face Shamrock Rovers in a Conference League game at the Stamford Bridge on December 20.
