Liverpool manager Arne Slot eyes Bayer Leverksen’s Jeremie Frimpong as Trent Alexander-Arnold’s replacement.
Liverpool coach Arne Slot has given a major hint on Trent Alexander-Arnold’s future at Anfield. The 26-year-old defender is currently in the final year of his contract with The Reds and has drawn a ton of attention from some of the best clubs in Europe. Amid the speculations, it has been reported that Slot is now on the lookout for a new wingback. The Daily Briefing (via TeamTalk) recently stated that Liverpool have been forced to take a ‘serious look’ at replacements for Trent. The Reds manager has reportedly identified Bayer Leverksen’s Jeremie Frimpong as the ‘ideal fit’ for his team.
Jeremie Frimpong is a 24-year-old wing-back who impressed in a Bayer Leverkusen shirt last season. The youngster helped his team secure the domestic double last season by winning both the Bundesliga and DFB-Pokal crowns. The 10-cap Netherlands star racked up a remarkable 26 goal contributions, scoring 14 times and providing 12 assists in the 2023/24 season. He is now the favourite to replace Trent Alexander-Arnold at Anfield if Liverpool secure a deal for the young star.
Trent Alexander-Arnold has been crucial to Liverpool’s successes in recent years. He has been a key part of the senior men’s team since breaking through the club’s academy in 2016. The right-back has helped The Reds win the Premier League, the Champions League, the FA Cup and the Carabao Cup. He broke the internet in the 2019/19 edition of the Champions League with his famous corner kick against Barcelona. Despite having a storied career at Liverpool, the 26-year-old still hasn’t signed an extension with the club.
While Trent Alexander-Arnold has been constantly linked with a move to Real Madrid, the Englishman recently suggested that he was loving life under Arne Slot’s management. In an interview with Sky Sports, Trent touched on how the manager was always focused on intricate details that have helped improve the team significantly. “The level of detail he has… I find myself smiling about it because that’s the kind of thing that I really enjoy. It’s just football in like a very, very in-depth level. I could tell from the first time I met him that I was going to enjoy playing under him and being a part of this,” he said.
When asked about his contract situation with Liverpool, Trent Alexander-Arnold claimed he wanted to keep the details of the ongoing negotiations private. “I have been at the club 20 years now, I have signed four or five contract extensions and none of those have been played out in public – and this one won’t be either,” he said.
It remains to be seen if Trent Alexander-Arnold will his boyhood club in a dream move to Real Madrid in the upcoming summer transfer window.
