Manchester United legend Roy Keane opined that Marcus Rashford finding pastures anew might do a world of good for both him and the club.

The English forward had revealed that he was ready for a new challenge in his career after all his years at United.

“For me, personally, I think I’m ready for a new challenge and the next steps,” Rashford said on Wednesday.

Reacting to the 27-year-old’s decision, former United skipper Keane stated a switch might rekindle the Englishman’s hunger.

“I don’t mind what he said. I think it’s spot on,” Keane said.

“Sometimes a deal just works for everybody. It’s been going on for a year or two now, there’s obviously a bit of talent in there, he’s been at the club since he was a kid,” he added.

“A change would probably do him the world of good, for him and his team and his family. Just go and play, maybe go abroad or whatever it might be.”

Keane added that once a player loses his hunger to perform at the highest level it is difficult to recapture the same energy.

“I always think if you lose that hunger, it is hard to get it back,” the Irishman said.

“Forget about the few bob he’s earned over the years — and listen, good for him — but we know, the great players, it’s nothing to do with that,” the 53-year-old added.

Keane added that a move could pave way for a renewed sense of passion in the Englishman who has been part of United since the youth setup.

“I think there’s a good chance he might get it back with a change of a club and scenery, a new country, a new league, whatever, but I don’t think he’ll get it back at United,” Keane said.

Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim, who had opted to bench both Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho in the side’s 2-1 win against Manchester City on Sunday said that he would have handled the situation in a different manner had he been in the player’s shoes.

“If this was me, probably I will speak with the manager,” Amorim told reporters on Wednesday.

“But, guys, let’s focus on Tottenham. Tottenham is the most important thing,” the Portuguese head coach steered.
