‘Special Welcome’: PM Modi Receives ‘Guard Of Honour’ Ahead Of Talks With Top Kuwaiti Leaders

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday was accorded a Ceremonial Welcome and Guard of Honour at Bayan Palace, Kuwait, in the presence of Kuwaiti Prime Minister Mohammed Sabah Al-Salem Al-Sabah.

The event marked a significant moment in PM Modi’s historic two-day visit to the Gulf nation, which has now become the first by an Indian Prime Minister in 43 years.

PM Modi is visiting Kuwait at the invitation of Kuwaiti Emir Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah. The last Indian prime minister to visit Kuwait was Indira Gandhi in 1981.

“PM Narendra Modi arrives at the Bayan Palace in Kuwait to a ceremonial welcome and Guard of Honour. Warmly received by HH Sheikh Ahmed Abdullah Al-Ahmed Al-Sabah, PM of Kuwait,” Ministry of External Affairs Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal posted on X. “A special welcome on a historic visit!” he added.

PM Modi To Hold Talks With Kuwaiti Leaders

PM Modi is set to hold extensive talks with the Amir, Crown Prince Sabah Al-Khalid Al-Sabah and his Kuwaiti counterpart Mohammed Sabah Al-Salem Al-Sabah later in the day.

The Indian Prime Minister, before his departure to the Gulf nation, expressed confidence that the visit would “strengthen and reinforce the special ties and bonds of friendship between the people of India and Kuwait.”

Earlier on Saturday, the first day of his visit, PM Modi addressed an Indian diaspora event titled ‘Hala Modi’ in Kuwait City. He addressed a large gathering of the Indian community, praising their contributions to global progress.

On his arrival to the country, he also met a 101-year-old former Indian Foreign Service officer and two Kuwaiti nationals who translated and published the epics Ramayana and Mahabharata in Arabic. Later, the Prime Minister visited a labour camp with a workforce of around 1,500 Indian nationals.
