Former India cricketer Vinod Kambli was discharged from the hospital on Wednesday. The 52-year-old was admitted to Mumbai’s Akruti Hospital in Thane on December 21 after his health deteriorated.
According to The Times of India, the former Indian cricketer walked out of the hospital in India’s new ODI jersey and was greeted by his well-wishers. He even held a cricket bat and played a few shots which was appreciated by the fans.
Dr Shailesh Thakur, director of Akruti Health City Hospital and a fan of Vinod Kambli, drove the former cricketer back to his home.
“He’s fine now. I’m dropping him back home,” the report quoted Thakur as saying.
Before leaving the hospital, Kambli spoke to the media and said he was completely fine. He also wished everyone a very happy new year and appealed to stay away from alcohol.
“This doctor (Thakur) made me fit and I had stated that I would come back only when I am fit. I will show people in Shivaji Park that I Vinod Kambli will not leave cricket. These guys (at the hospital) gave me good cricket practice. I ‘hit’ only fours and sixes,” Kambli said.
“Enjoy the new year. Don’t drink alcohol. Enjoy life,” he added.
Kambli (52) initially complained of urinary infection and muscle cramps following which he was admitted to Akruti Hospital in the Kalher area of Bhiwandi town on December 21. Later, a series of medical examinations revealed clots in his brain.
But as he started getting better, the left-handed batter, who featured in 17 Tests and 104 ODIs, also impressed his admirers with his dance moves from the hospital ward, indicating significant improvement in his health.
The moment was captured on video, showing Kambli dancing to a popular song with remarkable enthusiasm, which inspired those around him. His upbeat performance lifted the spirits of hospital staff, other patients, and attendees alike. A nurse and another staffer are seen enthusiastically dancing with him.
