Manoj Tiwary, a former teammate of Gautam Gambhir, has alleged that the current India head coach took credit for KKR’s IPL victories.
Manoj Tiwary has launched a scathing criticism of India head coach Gautam Gambhir, calling him a hypocrite and alleging the two-time world cup winner of using “PR” to take credit of Kolkata Knight Riders’ IPL triumph. Tiwary and Gambhir have share dressing room both for the Indian cricket team and in IPL for KKR.
The two share a fiery history, having nearly come to blows during a Ranji Trophy match in 2015 in New Delhi.
“Gambhir didn’t guide KKR to the title single-handedly as we all performed as a unit,” Tiwary told News18 Bangla. “Jacques Kallis, Sunil Narine and I, all contributed to the cause. But who took the credit? There is an environment and PR that allows him to take all the credit.”
Tiwary was speaking in context of India’s recent performance on in Australia where they suffered a 1-3 defeat to lose the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
“Gautam Gambhir is a hypocrite,” Tiwary said. “He doesn’t do what he says. The captain (Rohit Sharma) is from Mumbai, Abhishek Nayar is from Mumbai. Rohit has been pushed to the forefront. There is no one to speak for Jalaj Saxena. He performs well but keeps quiet. What is the use of a bowling coach? Whatever the coach says, he will agree. Morne Morkel came from Lucknow Super Giants. Abhishek Nayar was at Kolkata Knight Riders with Gambhir and the Indian head coach knows that he will not go against his instructions.”
Gambhir has come under close scrutiny after the latest setback in Australia that also saw India not qualifying for the final of the ICC World Test Championship since its inception. Prior to that, India also suffered a historic Test series whitewash at the hands of New Zealand last year.
India next host England for eight white-ball matches – five T20Is and three ODIs. They will then fly to Dubai for the Champions Trophy next month.
