Amid the ongoing Maha Kumbh in Uttar Pradesh’s Prayagraj, Congress leader Hussain Dalwai has raised concerns over the cleanliness arrangements for devotees.

Congress leader Dalwai, citing the humongous crowd that arrives to take a holy dip at Sangam, expressed that the area is likely to become unhygienic.

Speaking to news agency IANS, Hussain Dalwai said, “People across the country have faith in religion. A large number of people go there to take a holy dip, but it is likely that the area may become unhygienic.”

He added, “This could lead to widespread diseases, which must be prevented.”

Giving example of settings for Hajj pilgrimage, Dalwai urged for a more systematic arrangements for the grand event, with focus on cleanliness.

“Just as proper arrangements are made for the Hajj pilgrimage, similar arrangements should be made for the Kumbh Mela. The facilities for bathing should be well-organized. If sick individuals bathe with healthy people without any medical checkups, it could spread illnesses to healthy individuals,” he said.

Reacting to the Congress leader’s remarks, BJP’s Shehzad Poonawalla described it as “insulting”. Poonawala accused the Congress for maintaining an “anti-Sanatan mindset.”

Poonawala said, “Congress’ senior leader statement is insulting….this shows Congress’ anti-Sanatan mindset…they have always insulted Sanatan.”
