A plane crash into the Potomac River near Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport temporarily halted all takeoffs and landings. Emergency personnel are on the spot.

An aircraft collided with a helicopter and crashed in the Potomac River near Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport on Thursday. Reuters quoted the Washington Fire Department and said fireboats were on the scene as the rescue operations were underway.

According to some media reports, there was a collision between an American Airlines flight 5342 and a Black Hawk helicopter near the airport.

Videos on social media showed the moment when the plane crashed into the chopper during landing at the Reagan Airport.

Meanwhile, all takeoffs and landings at the airport were halted as emergency personnel responded to the incident.

“MPD is responding to an apparent air crash in the Potomac River. Multiple agencies are responding,” Washington’s Metropolitan Police Department posted on X.

An official confirmation on the number of casualties in the incident was awaited.
