Suresh Raina hinted at Virat Kohli returning as RCB’s captain for the 2025 IPL season. RCB is seeking a new skipper after Faf du Plessis’ exit, with no official word yet.

Suresh Raina may have just lit up a storm when he added fuel to the speculations regarding the Royal Challengers Bengaluru and their new skipper ahead of the 2025 season of the Indian Premier League.
The former Indian cricketer was on commentary duties in Hindi during India’s second ODI against England that took place in the Barabati Stadium in Cuttack. Just one delivery before Kohli’s dismissal, the Indian batting icon got struck on the arm by Jos Buttler throwing it back to his keeper, Phil Salt. The English skipper immediately apologized while Kohli and Salt exchanged smiles and continued on with the game.
Whilst all this was happening, Raina who had the mic on was saying, ‘He’s captain too this time.’ Interestingly, Aakash Chopra who was also on commentary duties, turned to Sanjay Bangar to ask if he could confirm who also mentioned that he did not have any such information.
The franchise is in search of a new skipper to lead them after Faf du Plessis’ exit. The Head Coach, Andy Flower had even mentioned earlier that there has been no communication whatsoever regarding the leadership duties for the coming season.
“Well, you’re going to have to wait for the outcome. It’s a new era that we are going into, the start of a three-year cycle, and I’m sure the anticipation will be good for you,” Flower was quoted by SportsTak ahead of the third season of the ILT20.
“You can ask me as often as you like, but that communication has not happened yet,” Flower clarified.
RCB bought quite a few star players from India and overseas to bolster their squad for the upcoming cycle. But none of the players stand out as a captain and it could mean that Kohli could return from the role. In addition, a report by the Times of India had suggested that Kohli would once again take up captaincy duties before the auction had taken place.
But the franchise has yet to make an announcement as fans remain eager to see who will lead the team for the coming season.
