Shocking video shows 76-year-old Democratic Rep. John Larson freeze mid-speech on House floor

A politician could be seen freezing mid-sentence after he suffered a medical emergency while delivering a speech on the House floor on Monday afternoon.

Democrat East Hartford Congressman John Larson, 76, was in the midst of a five minute speech expressing concerns about Social Security when he suddenly stopped talking and his eyes widened.

Larson attempted to power through and continued speaking at a slower pace and quieter pitch, sparking concerns that he had potentially suffered a stroke.

On Monday evening, a spokesperson for Larson revealed he’d actually suffered ‘what was likely an adverse reaction to a new medication.’

‘Congressman Larson appreciates the well wishes from everyone who has reached out. [He] is having tests administered by the House Attending Physician out of an abundance of caution.’

The spokesperson said despite his concerning appearance during his speech, Larson actually went on to participate ‘in multiple meetings in his office and was alert and engaged.

‘The Congressman remains in touch with his staff and in good spirits.’

Larson had voiced concerns about the Trump administration accessing sensitive payment systems and information through the Treasury Department as part of an ongoing effort by Elon Musk led DOGE to cut waste and purge the federal government.

The House held two votes on Monday evening, but Larson did not participate in either of them.

Moments before the incident, Larson had said: ‘Now [Trump] is saying he’s not even accountable to the courts.

‘He and the billionaire class have gotten together and said, ‘’Don’t worry, no one on the Republican side in the House and Senate who control both the house and Senate is going to speak up,”‘ Larson said confidently, before pausing and slowly, quietly adding: ‘and challenge us.’

After a longer pause, he continued, slowly: ‘We need to protect Americans’ privacy and their Social Security.”

In video of the incident, Larson appeared to swirl his tongue around in his mouth, repeatedly poking it against the side of his inner cheek as he stood on his feet and stared straight ahead.

His voice was significantly deeper after the incident.

Larson has represented his constituents since 1998 and was reelected in November.
