Comedian’s blistering attack on CBS’ 60 Minutes ‘hypocrisy’ over fawning interview with fired USAID workers

Comedian Tim Young called out the hypocrisy of CBS’ 60 Minutes by pointing out how the network had no sympathy for federal employees fired for not getting the COVID vaccine.

The comedian became the latest to hit out at the news program over a biased story about USAID workers cut by Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency.

Musk and President Donald Trump have attempted to shut down the embattled government agency tasked with humanitarian relief overseas after claims they were wasting billions.

That has led to thousands of workers being fired, even more being taken off the job and the axing of USAID’s inspector general for criticizing the purge.

Two workers spoke out against what’s being done to the agency on the long-running CBS newsmagazine Sunday, with Kristina Drye slamming Musk and Trump for how quickly they were fired.

‘Twelve days ago, people knew where their next paycheck was coming from. They knew how they were going to pay for their kids’ daycare, their medical bills. And then, all gone overnight,’ Drye, who lists her pronouns in her LinkedIn bio, said.

Tim Young, a conservative comedian, hit back at the workers and 60 Minutes for their selective empathy.

He asked: ‘Did 60 minutes ever do a similar segment on the soldiers who lost their jobs because they didn’t take the vaccine?’

The program’s coverage of the vaccine is largely restricted to its creation.

Young’s critique follows JD Vance criticizing German prosecutors interviewed by the show explaining their efforts to crack down on free speech in Germany.

CBS featured a sympathetic look at the German government efforts to crack down on ‘hate speech’ in an episode on Sunday.

German prosecutors explained to the reporter how surprised German citizens are when they are arrested for posting offensive content online, but said it was necessary.

But Vance disagreed.

‘Insulting someone is not a crime, and criminalizing speech is going to put real strain on European-US relationships,’ the vice president said.

The German prosecutors explained that anyone sharing or resharing offensive or hateful content would be prosecuted and fined, seizing their phones, and even jailed.

USAID has been under fire and under attack since the beginning of Musk’s efforts with DOGE.

The US is by far the world’s largest donor of humanitarian aid, with USAID administering billions of dollars in humanitarian, development and security assistance in more than 100 countries.

USAID funding goes to programs that span from women’s health in conflict zones to access to clean water, HIV/AIDS treatments, energy security and anti-corruption work.

Trump has argued that the overseas aid agency is not a valuable use of taxpayer money and wants to dismantle it – with plans to keep just 611 employees and put nearly 10,000 on leave.

USAID is the world’s biggest aid donor, with much of its budget spent on health programs. Two-thirds of its 10,000 staff work overseas.

It is one of many federal agencies targeted by Trump as he works to slash federal spending in the US.

The President campaigned on overhauling the government and formed an advisory body named the Department of Government Efficiency (Doge) – led by tech billionaire Elon Musk – to slash the budget.

Friday’s ruling came in response to an emergency petition by the unions American Foreign Service Association and American Federation of Government Employees, which represent USAID employees.

The legal action argued that the President was violating the US Constitution and federal law. ‘Not a single one of defendants’ actions to dismantle USAID were taken pursuant to congressional authorization,’ it said.

Representing the Trump administration, Justice Department official Brett Shumate told the judge that the President ‘has decided there is corruption and fraud at USAID’.
