The Rangers come into tonight’s contest with a great 4-1-0 record, but their lone loss of the season came on the road. Starting the season hot is always a good sign for your team. They are playing well on both sides of the ice. They have scored 3.20 goals per game to start the year, and they have only allowed 1.60 goals per game.
They started their season with a loss to the Bruins, but have won the past four games, all without needing overtime to get that victory. They’ve also beaten some strong teams. They took down the Lightning, Red Wings, Mammoth, and Islanders. The Rangers have won all three of those games by at least two goals.

The Washington Capitals have only played three games this season, but they are 2-1 to start the year. They lost to the Lightning on the road, falling by a final of 3-1. The two wins came against the Hurricanes and the Penguins. This is their second straight game at home after beating Pittsburgh 5-3 in their last match.
Even though it is just three games, the Capitals have allowed 2.67 goals per game. In their two wins, the Capitals have scored five goals. In their loss, they put in just one goal. They are allowing six more shots per game than they are taking, so they are exposing their goalie to a lot of attempts each game.

Player Highlight: Alexis Lafreniere
This has been a great start for Alexis Lafreniere of the Rangers. He has already found the back of the net three times and has added two assists to his stat sheet. It may just be a great stretch of five games, but if he can keep this pace up for a full season, he will have almost 50 goals. He tied for second on the Rangers in points last season. Lafreniere has played the Capitals 26 times in his career and scored nine goals and five assists.
