The India vs Pakistan rivalry is all set for its latest edition when the two teams will take on each other in the fifth match of the Champions Trophy in Dubai on Sunday, February 23. While India will begin as firm favourites based on recent form, one can never count Pakistan out of the game, especially in conditions which are very familiar to them.
While the Rohit Sharma-led India are coming off a six-wicket victory over Bangladesh, Pakistan were defeated by New Zealand in the tournament’s opening game by 60 runs at home in Karachi.
Ahead of the big game, we take a look at how Pakistan’s current team members have performed against India in ODIs:
Imam ul Haq:Â The opener will have a big task at hand, replacing Fakhar Zaman in the lineup, that too against India. He has scored just 64 runs in five innings against the neighbours, at a dismal average of 12.8.
Babar Azam: Thrust into opening after Saim Ayub’s injury, Babar has scored 218 runs in seven innings against India, at an average of 31.14, with just one fifty to his name.
Saud Shakeel: The star Pakistan batter, who isn’t a proven entity in ODIs as of yet, has played just one ODI against India, when he scored only six runs. It was the 2023 ODI World Cup encounter in Ahmedabad when he was dismissed by Kuldeep Yadav.
Mohammad Rizwan: The Pakistan skipper, who has an ODI average of 42.1, hasn’t been very successful against India. Rizwan has scored 51 runs in two innings against India, at an average of 25.5.
He scored 49 runs in Ahmedabad in 2023, before being bowled out by ace India pacer Jasprit Bumrah, who has been ruled out of the Champions Trophy.
Salman Agha: The star Pakistan allrounder, who has an ODI batting average of 45.57, hasn’t been very successful against India either.
Agha scored 23 runs in the only innings against India, in the Super Four match of the 2023 Asia Cup, before being dismissed by Kuldeep Yadav. He bowled four overs in that game but couldn’t pick any wickets.
Tayyab Tahir, Khushdil Shah and Abrar Ahmed: The trio will make their ODI debut against India on Sunday if the lineup remains unchanged.
Shaheen Shah Afridi:Â The star Pakistan pacer has picked seven wickets in four ODIs that he has played against India, with a best haul of 4/35 in the washed-out Group A game of the 2023 Asia Cup.
Naseem Shah:Â The young Pakistan pacer has scalped three wickets in two ODIs that he has played against India, with the best haul of 3/36 in the aforementioned game.
