Premier League-winning striker Robin Van Persie was named as the head coach of Eredivisie side Feyenoord on Sunday as the Dutch icon takes over the mantle of his boyhood team in a contract that will keep him at the club till 2027.

The Dutchman had an incredibly successful playing career as he clinched the coveted PL title with Manchester United, following a tectonic move from rivals Arsenal who he represented in 2004 and 2012.

Van Persie was known for his standout finishing and his ability to produce goals from nothing. The striker was a certified sharpshooter in his heyday and just the mention of his name is enough to send fans back in time to when the Dutchman proved to be an absolute menace in front of the net and a nightmare for opposition defensive setups.

He was a key cog in Sir Alex Ferguson’s final PL title in the 2012-13 season, which stands as United most recent, as the Red Devils notched up their record 20th title.

Van Persie arrives at Feyenoord from Dutch side Heerenveen where he helmed the club since his first-ever appointment as a manager in 2024. Van Persie’s road to being a head coach, however, started with Feyenoord’s Varkenoord Academy where he served as a speciality coach for the U-18 side.

Rene Hake who has experience working with clubs such as FC Twente, FC Utrecht and FC Emmen joined Feyenoord as the assistant coach to complement the addition of Van Persie as the head coach of the Dutch unit.
