Apple is planning for a big iOS overhaul this year which could make the platform cohesively look and feel across all the operating systems.
Apple is planning a big overhaul with the iOS 19 but will it actually happen?
The iOS 18 version came out with the iPhone 16 series last year and 2025 is going to be the year when Apple has big plans for the next iOS version. That’s what a new report from Bloomberg has said this week, claiming that the iOS 19 version will see Apple make a big design and functional overhaul later this year.
It is funny to see this update come via a strong and credible source, because iOS 18 was also supposed to get a big change in 2024 but that didn’t exactly materialise. So for now we are taking the news about the iOS 19 update getting a big overhaul with a pinch of salt and some excitement.
iOS 19 Update: Big Changes Coming?
The Bloomberg report says iOS 19 will see changes in the icons for the apps on iPhone and complete redesign of the iOS UI is not being ruled out. The system elements could also get a new look while the control centre should be another big focus for Apple if the iOS 19 redesign does come through.
It seems the company is finally realising that all of its operating systems have a different identity and this overhaul promises to make iOS, macOS and iPadOS to work cohesively. The report also suggests Apple could adapt the visionOS UI for all the platforms that will seamlessly work across its products.
We are hoping that Apple can manage these big changes with iOS much better than its progress in the AI arena. Apple will give us a clear idea about its plans at the WWDC 2025 which should happen in the next few months.
Apple has a lot on its plate for the next 12 months, which includes the heavy work needed to make the Siri AI avatar work as advertised. The company has talked about delaying its release to 2026, which has forced them to take down ads that showcased the supposed Siri features to prospective iPhone buyers.
