Superstar getaway that once hosted Nicole Kidman and Tom Cruise listed for eye-watering $40million

A stunning Sydney mansion that once hosted Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman during their ill-fated marriage has hit the market.

In 2000, the famed Hollywood A-listers were guests of director Baz Luhrmann who previously owned the enormous spread.

The property has now been listed for sale with a whopping price guide of $40million.

Set on lavish grounds in inner-city Darlinghurst and known as Iona, the beautifully maintained Italianate estate boasts seven bedrooms and seven bathrooms.

Luhrmann and his wife Catherine Martin leased the property in the late 1990s and used it as a ‘home/office’ for their company Bazmark.

The couple eventually bought it in 2006 for $10million after making the box office smash Strictly Ballroom (1992) and the Nicole Kidman hit Moulin Rouge (2001).

Kidman and Cruise reportedly a party on the Bazmark spread to celebrate the completion of Moulin Rouge not long before the Hollywood power couple split in 2001.

After moving to New York, production designer Martin, 59 and Luhrmann, 61, sold off Iona in 2016 for $16million to its current owners, stockbroker Tim Eustace and his partner Salvador Panui.

They made a series of improvements to the estate in order to make it ‘family friendly’ reported the Australian Financial Review last month.

Famed as one of Sydney’s grand mansions, the 2716square metre heritage listed property was completed in 1888 and was once a private hospital.

Located in a secluded tree-lined patch of Sydney’s busy Darlinghurst just 2kms from the CBD, the gorgeous pad is a delightful mix of luxury and Old World design.

Features include ornamental iron lace, stained glass windows and Victorian-era styled tessellated tiling.

Catherine Martin designed the decorative wallpaper that helps maintain the home’s 19th charm.

Covering two levels, highlights include a private ‘drawing room’, a cellar and a billiards room, which boasts a chandelier, a statue and a fireplace.

There’s also a sitting room, over-sized kitchen, butler’s pantry and private dining room.

The main bedroom occupies an entire corner of the upper floor and includes a huge dressing room and access to a large verandah.

Other highlights include a ‘nursery’, a library as well as a private apartment.

Modern touches to the estate include a large pool and entertainment deck and gym.

The expansive grounds include decorative ‘water features’, and a Japanese garden.

It comes after it was reported that the Gold Coast ‘shack’ Luhrmann and Martin rented while they were making their 2022 movie Elvis has sold for $5.72million.

The couple have been living increasingly separate lives in recent years, with the costume designer living in the Miami area home while the director worked in New York.

The four-bedroom, two-bathroom house sold through Amir Prestige, with the real estate agency using the stunning seaside location as the selling point.

Renovated in the 1960s, the home is just steps away from the pristine sands of Miami Beach and has plenty of nostalgic charm.

The couple moved into the shack when they downsized from a larger house on the glitter strip after relocating to the area in 2020.

In a recent interview with The Australian’s Wish magazine, Catherine spoke about having a long-distance relationship with her husband.

The Academy Award-winning costume designer said the pair spoke regularly on the phone when he was in New York and she stayed at the seaside Gold Coast shack.
