The Ubud district on the holiday island of Bali has been struck by a 5.1 magnitude earthquake at 9.52am local time, which was 11.52am Australian east coast time.Â
The quake, which struck 10kilometres north-north-east of Ubud, was listed as being 4.8 magnitude by the United States Geological Survey, at a depth of 35km.
But local reports and a Thai earthquake monitoring group said it was 5.1.Â
Around 1.2million Australians visit Bali, which is part of Indonesia, last year, making up the largest number of tourist visitors.Â
Last May, Bali residents and travellers were shaken awake by a 5.2 magnitude earthquake.Â
‘I woke up to my bed shaking’, one traveller wrote at the time, while another said it ‘scared the living daylights out of me’.
Others, though said they heard nothing and ‘slept through it’.
That earthquake originated in the Indian Ocean, 97km south-west of South Lombok.
