Myanmar Earthquake: A strong 7.7 magnitude earthquake hit Myanmar, the United States Geological Survey (USGS) said. Germany’s GFZ center for geosciences said the temblor’s epicenter was in Myanmar. Tremors were felt in neighboring countries as well.
The iconic Ava Bridge in Myanmar’s Mandalay collapsed into the Irrawaddy River and several buildings collapsed due to the massive quake, it was reported.
What We Know About Myanmar Earthquake So Far
The epicenter of the earthquake was in central Myanmar, about 50 kilometers (30 miles) east of the city of Monywa.Â
According to the National Center for Seismology, the earthquake hit at around 11.50 am at a depth of 10 km.
“EQ of M: 7.2, On: 28/03/2025 11:50:52 IST, Lat: 21.93 N, Long: 96.07 E, Depth: 10 Km, Location: Myanmar,” the NCS posted on X.
Shocking Videos Of Earthquake In Bangkok Emerge
Users took to social media platforms to share videos of the earthquake in Bangkok. In videos, startled residents were seen pouring out of high-rise condominiums and hotels in Bangkok.
Many buildings were evacuated as they swayed in the rare quake, as seen in clips on social media.Â
An under-construction building in Thailand collapsed due to the strong tremors.
“I heard it and I was sleeping in the house, I ran as far as I could in my pyjamas out of the building,” Duangjai, a resident of Chiang Mai, told AFP.
