Royal Challengers Bengaluru‘s impressive start to IPL 2025 has come to a halt after former champions Gujarat Titans outclassed them on Wednesday night at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium. Having started their campaign with back-to-back victories, RCB, in their first home game of the season, lost to GT by eight wickets to slip from the top of the points table to the third spot.

During the contest, RCB were given a major injury scare when their batting maestro Virat Kohli ended up hurting his finger while attempting to prevent a boundary during GT’s chase of 170.

GT opener Sai Sudharsan had swept a delivery from left-arm spinner Krunal Pandya, and the ball bounced right in front of Kohli at deep midwicket and he fumbled as the ball struck his index finger before rushing past the boundary for four runs.

It left Kohli in some pain resulting with RCB physio tending to his injury.

However, the former RCB captain resumed but looked uncomfortable.

Kohli didn’t have a good day in the office with the bat either as he managed seven runs before being dismissed as RCB were put in to bat first by GT captain Shubman Gill.

In fact, RCB’s top-four failed to fire with Mohammed Siraj breathing fire against his former franchise. Siraj got rid of Phil Salt and Devdutt Padikkal inside the Powerplay overs.

RCB were struggling at 104/6 at one stage but Liam Livingstone (54 off 40) and Tim David (32* off 18) propelled them to a decent 169/8 in 20 overs.

The below par target didn’t trouble GT batters as they chased it down comfortably in 17.5 overs for their second win in three games. Gill scored run-a-ball 14 before falling to Bhuvneshwar Kumar.

Jos Buttler (73* off 39), Sai Sudharsan (49 off 36) and Sherfane Rutherford (30* off 18) ensured no hiccups as GT sealed the deal.

RCB will next face Mumbai Indians on Monday while Gujarat Titans take on Sunrisers Hyderabad this Sunday.
