Da’Vine Joy Randolph, Maya Rudolph, and Sarah Paulson stun in dramatic gowns as they lead the stars at 2024 Creative Arts Emmy Awards

Da’Vine Joy Randolph looked incredible as she joined Sarah Paulson and Maya Rudolph to lead the stars at the second night of the 2024 Creative Arts Emmy Awards on Sunday.

The glamorous trio graced the red carpet at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles, celebrating Hollywood’s behind-the-scenes talent in directing, editing, casting, costuming, and production design.

Oscar winner Da’Vine, 38, turned heads in a strapless, shimmering gown as she flashed her megawatt smile for the shutterbugs.

American Horror Story alum Sarah, 49, exuded sophisticated chic in a navy gown adorned with white polka dots, while SNL icon Maya, 52, dazzled in a metallic black full-length dress.

The actresses were among a host of celebrities, including Kristen Wiig and Jamie Lee Curtis, who attended the second night of the Creative Arts Emmy gala, which put a spotlight on scripted programming, with FX’s Shogun leading the nominations with 25 nods.

Composer Atticus Ross is one win away from EGOT status—just a Tony Award short of completing the prestigious achievement.

Jamie Lee Curtis won as guest actress for her role in season two of FX’s The Bear.

Her last nomination was in 1998 for Nicholas’ Gift.

Night one ended with awards given out in 50 categories, with Angela Bassett winning for best narrator for her work on National Geographic’s Queens, and Maya winning for her voiceover work on the Netflix animated series Big Mouth.

Other winners included Alan Cummingm, who won the award for Outstanding Host for a Reality or Reality Competition Program for his work on The Traitors, and Pat Sajak, who won for Outstanding Host For A Game Show.

Bassett got her first win after nine nominations at the event.

The Black Panther actress told the audience: ‘It feels good; really, really good.’

‘Thank you to National Geographic, Wild Star Film, and all the directors — all women — who brought this incredible story, this incredible docuseries centered on the ferocious and magnificent things in the animal kingdom. I couldn’t be more thrilled and more grateful,’ she said in her acceptance speech.

The seven-part series delves into the fascinating world of animal matriarchies from around the globe.

Notably, the production team is entirely female, which Bassett said was a ‘big draw and highlight.’

Jimmy Kimmel — who won as an EP for The Oscars — was joined by wife Molly McNearney, who wowed in an elegant black gown.

Legendary actor Dick Van Dyke tied for the record of oldest Creative Arts Emmys Winner at the age of 98, for outstanding variety special, ‘Dick Van Dyke 98 Years of Magic.’

Van Dyke’s win places him alongside the late Norman Lear as the oldest recipient of a Creative Arts Emmy. Lear previously held the record for his 2020 win at age 98.

‘Thank you, that reception, I cannot tell you what it means,’ Van Dyke told the audience, per People.

‘I’m 99 next month,’ he added, before showing off some dance moves.

He also addressed his wife Arlene Silver, 52, who was with him on stage as producer of the special.

‘The young lady who got this award, you may think of the word nepotism and I would understand it, but this lady got the job all by herself as producer of the Dick Van Dyke special because she knows me inside and out, and knows how I work, and don’t take no sass from anybody. Arlene Van Dyke!’

Arlene then told her husband, ‘Thank you so much. It is a honor to spend my life with you… We got four nominations that put love, heart and soul into the show. To honor you, you’ve created endless joy and playfulness for generations to come.’

In a fitting send-off before his retirement from Wheel of Fortune, Pat Sajak won his first Outstanding Host for a Game Show Emmy Award. He will soon hand over the hosting reins to Ryan Seacrest on September 9th.

It marks his first Emmy win in the category since 1998, and his 23rd overall nomination.

In her acceptance speech for her role in The Bear, 65-year-old Jamie called the opportunity ‘a privilege.’

The drama-comedy sees the silver-haired performer portray a disheveled, edgy mom to Jeremy Allen White’s Carmen Berzatto.

She added elsewhere in her acknowledgements, ‘It’s astonishing that I got this opportunity at this point in my life,’ going on to praise the series’ cast and crew as ‘the ingredients of this beautiful, beautiful, beautiful piece of television that I’m privileged to be in.’

The Freakier Friday star echoed the sentiments in the press room after the ceremony, telling journalists that she feels ‘lucky’ to have scored the Emmy.

‘I just never thought in my life that I would get to do work at this level of depth and complexity and intelligence,’ Curtis gushed.

Sharing her advice for other creatives in the entertainment industry, the star said in a press room interview: ‘I would say for young artists right now, it’s really important that you harness your own voice and use the tools around you.’

‘I stared on YouTube — that’s a great place to start,’ Awkwafina, real name Nora Lum, added.

She went on to advise, ‘If you’re going for opportunities that aren’t really coming, you have to create them for yourself in a way. You should go to open mics, you should make your own content.’
