Pakistan’s Foreign Office said India was in no position to take “unilateral decision” after New Delhi suspended the Indus Waters Treaty in abeyance as part of its response to the devastating terrorist attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam, where 26 tourists were gunned down by terrorists.
India put the Indus Waters Treaty on hold, closed down the Attari Border, and cancelled Pakistani visas after the April 22 terror attack. In response, Pakistan suspended trade and put the Shimla Agreement and other bilateral accords with India on hold, while closing its airspace for Indian flights.
Addressing his weekly press briefing, Foreign Office spokesperson Shafqat Ali Khan said Pakistan rejected India’s decision to put the Indus Waters Treaty and said “all options were on the table” for a measured response. “We reject it. Water keeps on flowing and its our lifeline,” he said.
