Eagle Thane Strikers Clinch Semifinal Spot With 36-Run Win Over Falcons

Last Updated:

Eagle Thane Strikers, led by Atharva Ankolekar, beat Shreyas Iyer’s SOBO Mumbai Falcons by 36 runs, securing a semifinal spot in the T20 Mumbai League 2025.

The third season of the league is ongoing in Mumbai.

The Eagle Thane Strikers, captained by Atharva Ankolekar, defeated Shreyas Iyer’s SOBO Mumbai Falcons by 36 runs, securing their spot in the semifinals of the T20 Mumbai League 2025 at the Wankhede Stadium on Saturday.

Captain Ankolekar and standout player Sairaj Patil played pivotal roles in the Strikers’ third win in four matches. Patil was the top scorer with 61 runs from 37 balls and later took four wickets. Despite the loss, Shreyas Iyer’s SOBO Mumbai Falcons advanced to the next stage with six points.

In another match, the MSC Maratha Royals beat ARCS Andheri by six wickets to secure a place in the semifinals.

Earlier in the day, Aakash Tigers MWS, led by Shams Mulani, edged out Prithvi Shaw’s North Mumbai Panthers by 22 runs in a rain-affected contest at the Wankhede Stadium. The heavy rain delayed the start, reducing the match to five overs a side.

Chasing a target of 67 runs on a pitch with significant movement, the Panthers began cautiously. Openers Shaw and Divyaansh Saxena managed only 10 runs in the first two overs before being restrained by sharp bowling and a slow outfield. With the pressure mounting, Shaw attempted an aggressive shot off Sylvester D’Souza but was deceived by the lack of pace and was caught by Shams Mulani. His departure marked the end of the Panthers’ hopes, concluding their chase at 45/2.

Batting first, the Tigers maintained a high scoring rate despite losing wickets regularly, with the in-form Mulani (12) and Arjun Dani (10) pushing the total to 66/7.

Rain interrupted the opening game on Saturday, which was eagerly awaited by fans as it featured Bandra Blasters, led by Suryakumar Yadav, against Triumphs Knights MNE. Torrential downpour at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai forced the match to be abandoned.

The Bandra Blasters, batting first, scored 192/7 in 20 overs, thanks to a brisk half-century from opener Suved Parkar. Parkar entertained the crowd with 69 runs off 37 balls, including eight boundaries and three sixes, before being dismissed by Minad Manjrekar. The Knights’ bowlers then restricted the Blasters’ lower order.

In response, the Knights faced a setback in the first over when opener Siddhant Aadhhathrao was dismissed. However, rain stopped play soon after, forcing players and officials to leave the field.

The tournament is being broadcast on Star Sports 1 (English & Hindi), Star Sports 2 (English), and JioHotstar.
