The monsoon season is among the best times of year to take in the rich customs and culture of the mountains, particularly Uttarakhand. The first monsoon shower not only provides relief from the intense heat but also revitalises the lush vegetation of the surrounding area. Uttarakhand’s monsoon treks are the perfect weekend escape, particularly if you are yearning to experience India’s monsoon in the hills.
Experience the famous Valley of Flowers’ flower-filled pathways or take a stroll through Dayara Bugyal, India’s most picturesque meadow.
Valley of Flowers
Encircled by mountains, the Valley of Flowers is home to babbling streams, flowers, and a well-travelled trail. It is one of India’s most popular trekking destinations. This famous UNESCO World Heritage Site comes to life during the monsoon season. A captivating array of more than 500 flower types, including the rare Himalayan Brahma Kamal, comes to life. This trek, which includes a strenuous and difficult ascent to the Sikh pilgrimage site Hemkund Sahib, has longer trekking days than others. You can view Ghangaria and the Valley of Flowers from the top when you enter the alpine zone on the way to Hemkund Sahib.
Dayara Bugyal Trek
Widely regarded as the most ‘beautiful meadow in India,’ Dayara Bugyal is a breathtaking expanse of rolling hills. The entire endless green oasis is encircled by the snow-capped summits of Mount Banderpoonch, Mount Srikanth, Draupadi Ka Danda, and Mount Jaunli. It will be surrounded by vivid wildflower bursts and a fresh panorama in every shade of green during the monsoon.
Nag Tibba Trek
The Nag Tibba trek, one of the quickest and most rewarding hikes in the Garhwal Himalayas, appears too good to be missed during the monsoon season. The surrounding vegetation comes to life as the road becomes more picturesque. It is perfect for beginners due to its easy-to-moderate challenges, and you can get rewarded with breathtaking sunsets and views of Himalayan giants like Bandarpoonch and Swargarohini.
Chopta-Chandrashila Trek
Chopta is one of the most exquisite hill stations in India and is often referred to as the Switzerland of India. The Chopta-Chandrashila Trek offers an opportunity to fully absorb the splendour of the Himalayas. At 2,680 meters above sea level, Chopta is encircled by a towering forest of oak, deodar, and rhododendron that appears ethereal during monsoon. The expansive vistas of the Himalayas, which include Janhukut and Chaukhamba, are absolutely remarkable here.
Nanda Devi National Park Trek
The Nanda Devi National Park and the Valley of Flowers National Park make up the central region of the larger Nanda Devi Biosphere Reserve. It is dotted with the divine presence of rhododendron, birch, and juniper woods. A hiking trip to this stunning area of the Himalayas may not be the best decision during the height of the monsoon. Despite being challenging, the trek’s main attraction is the route itself, which provides unparalleled views of the neighbouring peaks, including Bethartoli, Dunagiri, Changabang, Trishul, Nanda Devi East, and Nanda Devi West.
