Amazon CEO On AI: The looming fear of AI taking our jobs is strengthening each passing day with the coming of advanced and more sophisticated LLM models and applications. There’s a spree of firings in tech companies aimed at restricting and rebalancing the resources and teams to focus on the development and growth of generative AI and to be competitive.
Now Amazon CEO Andy Jassy spooked the company’s employees, saying ‘the workforce will shrink soon with the advancement of AI’. In an open letter to employees, Jassy underlined the rolling out of Gen AI and agents would change how the work is being done.
He also forewarned that they would need fewer people doing some of the jobs that are being done today, and more people doing other types of jobs.
Jassy also said that they would expect a shrinkage of the workforce in the coming years, with the high usage of AI in doing work for efficiency.
The Amazon CEO described generative AI as the most transformative technology since the Internet. He emphasized, “Those who embrace this change, become conversant in AI, help us build and improve our AI capabilities internally and deliver for customers, will be well-positioned to have high impact and help us reinvent the company,” he said to employees.
In his letter to the employees, Jassy highlighted that technologies like Generative AI are rare, occurring once-in-a-lifetime, “and completely change what’s possible for customers and businesses. So, we are investing quite expansively, and the progress we are making is evident.”
