The Chennai Bulls continued their unbeaten streak in Season 1 of the Rugby Premier League (RPL) on Wednesday at the Shahaji Raje Bhosale Sports Complex (Andheri Sports Complex), according to an RPL press release.
Simultaneously, the Delhi Redz secured their first victory of the tournament against the Mumbai Dreamers, who have yet to register a win.
The day began with a thrilling encounter between the Chennai Bulls and the Kalinga Black Tigers, which ended in a 26-26 draw. Following that, the Delhi Redz triumphed over the Mumbai Dreamers with a score of 20-7.
These outcomes ensure the Chennai Bulls remain at the top of the points table.
The Kalinga Black Tigers started strongly, with Perry Baker scoring the first try of the game and Maurice Longbottom successfully converting. The Chennai Bulls then equalised with Joaquin Pellandini’s try and kick. This was the calm before the storm, as the Tigers gained momentum before half-time with Kyle Tremblay and James Thiel each scoring a try, and Longbottom converting another kick.
Just before the break, Aryan Dixit scored a try for the Bulls, leaving both teams separated by seven points as they took a breather. Early in the second half, the Bulls levelled the score with Filipe Sauturaga scoring a try and converting it as well.
In the final quarter, the Kalinga Black Tigers pulled ahead with a try from Ajay Deswal and another conversion by Longbottom. However, just as the Tigers seemed poised for their first win of the season, Vaafauese Maliko scored a try and Joaquin Pellandini converted his kick from the wing, ensuring the Bulls did not lose the game.
In the second match of the day, the Delhi Redz faced the Mumbai Dreamers. The Dreamers began strongly, with James Turner scoring a try and Akash Balmiki converting it. They managed to maintain their lead until half-time.
However, after the break, the Delhi Redz made a strong comeback. Alejandro Laforga scored the first try, followed by two more tries from Jordan Conroy, with Deepak Punia converting with the final move of the game. Punia also added a drop kick, securing a comprehensive 20-7 victory for his team.
