WhatsApp is giving businesses more power and tools to reach more users across the globe. The company has announced a slew of features to attract more brands to the platform and help them connect with their customers with the help of AI and calling support. WhatsApp shared these updates at the Conversations 2025 event in Miami, US earlier this week. WhatsApp is already becoming more than just a messaging app, thanks to integrations like Meta AI, Channels and Status updates.

In fact, it is closely mimicking the features offered by Facebook and Instagram, also products owned by Meta. It is fair to call this a Meta-fication of WhatsApp in full flow, and these new features will just add to the nuisance.

WhatsApp Business Feature Updates

AI To Handle The Chat Rush

WhatsApp wants to use AI and help businesses handle the chat traffic for customer support and even respond to the queries where possible. Simply put, this is the WhatsApp AI chatbot built over the brand profile and dataset that talks to the user, something that other platforms already support. But the messaging app wants to go a step further and give it a personalised touch, offering recommendations for products and even letting them buy it.

Call The Brands, Voice Or Video Chat Too

If AI chatbots weren’t enough, WhatsApp will allow customers to call or even send a voice chat to businesses. “Businesses will be able to receive a call from a customer when they want to talk to someone live, or call a customer directly once they’ve asked to hear from you,” WhatsApp points out in a post. The addition of voice chat or video calling is also in the works and it will be available soon, in cases like telehealth consultation with clinics signing up with WhatsApp for its program.

WhatsApp is clearly intent on engaging with Businesses who pay a fee to use these services and access its user base. But at the end of the day, it will be people who will be relying on these brands through WhatsApp, which was once just a messaging app. And Meta is changing that for good.
