After her performance in Phule, actor Patralekhaa recently embarked on a picturesque escape to Aotearoa, New Zealand, with her husband Rajkummar Rao. The couple traded film sets and studio lights for golden sunsets, crisp air, and immersive moments in nature. Their journey was anything but surface-level – sources close to the couple revealed that they specifically chose New Zealand for its raw, unfiltered beauty and its deeply authentic experiences, which foster genuine connections, both with the land and its people.
Their travels led them into the heart of New Zealand’s rich autumn landscapes, where rust-hued foliage blanketed rolling hills and the air carried a whisper of seasonal magic. At the Brick Bay Wine & Sculpture Trail, nestled just outside Auckland, the couple was spotted walking hand-in-hand amid contemporary installations. They paused reverently beside majestic wind chimes that sang with the breeze – a quiet, poetic moment of harmony with nature.
Always ones to infuse humour and creativity into their travels, Rajkummar and Patralekhaa recreated Michelangelo’s iconic Creation of Adam, with a twist, seated apart on a quirky COVID-era social distancing bench. The playful tableau brought a smile to onlookers and reminded us that art and love often find their most powerful expression in simplicity.
Their exploration took a meaningful turn at Sanctuary Mountain Maungatautari, where they met with Ringi, a Māori guide, and Jesse, a conservationist. There, behind the world’s longest pest-proof fence, they delved into stories of indigenous wisdom and ecological guardianship, visibly moved by the cultural and environmental significance of the space.
To round off their journey, the couple soared above Taupō’s geothermal valleys on a helicopter ride that offered panoramic views of New Zealand’s dramatic natural theatre. As they touched back down, Rajkummar turned to Patralekhaa with a smile: “Love, laughter, and a touch of adrenaline – this was truly a date in the sky, New Zealand style.”
It was a getaway filled with beauty, reflection, and connection – a journey that seemed to echo the very soul of Aotearoa.
