Russian President Putin has ordered the country’s military to increase its number of troops by 180,000 to a total of 1.5 million. In a decree published on the Kremlin’s website, Putin orders the government to provide the necessary funding. The decree, which takes effect on Dec. 1, sets the overall number of Russian military personnel at nearly 2.4 million, including 1.5 million troops.According to reports, such an increase would see Russia become second only to China in terms of the number of active combat soldiers.
