Jasprit Bumrah was India’s best bowler in the third Test against England, which was played from July 10 to 14 at Lord’s in London. He picked up five wickets for 74 runs in the first innings and dismissed two English batters in the second innings. Apart from his bowling, Bumrah made headlines for his batting in the second innings. After coming out to bat at No. 10 on Monday (July 14) in the second session, Bumrah faced 54 balls and scored 5 runs. He frustrated English bowlers for almost two hours and kept India’s chances of winning the match alive by adding 35 runs for the ninth wicket in 22 overs with Ravindra Jadeja (61 not out from 181 balls).

According to former India batter Mohammad Kaif, Bumrah was giving a tough time to English players to the extent that their Test captain, Ben Stokes, with fast bowler Jofra Archer, shockingly plotted to injure him.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Kaif claimed that after getting frustrated by Bumrah and Jadeja’s partnership, England made a plan to injure Bumrah by deliberately targeting him with a barrage of bouncers.

As per the former India middle-order batter Stokes and Archer believed that if they couldn’t dismiss Bumrah, they could at least leave him hurt ahead of the fourth Test in Manchester.

“Stokes and Archer planned to bowl bouncers against Bumrah. If he doesn’t get out, hit him on the finger or shoulder to injure him. This stays in the mind of bowlers to injure the main bowler, whom our batters find tough to bat against. This was the plan, which worked later (to get him out),” said Kaif.

Stokes removed Bumrah

Bumrah was sent back to the pavilion by Stokes on the third ball of the 62nd over. The former India Test vice-captain tried to play a big shot against the star all-rounder but failed to connect with the ball properly and was caught by substitute fielder Sam Cook.

After Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj added 23 runs for the 10th wicket with Jadeja in 13.2 overs but failed to help India chase down the target of 193 runs in the fourth innings of the red-ball match at the Home of Cricket.
