More than 7,000 boxes of frozen waffles have been recalled due to potentially containing plastic.
Utah-based Kodiak Cakes LLC initiated the recall last month of its Kodiak Power Waffles Buttermilk & Vanilla ‘due to the potential presence of soft plastic film,’ the company said.
The affected products were sold at Costco Wholesale stores in 13 Midwestern states: Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio, South Dakota, and Wisconsin.
No injuries have been reported as of August 26.

It’s unclear what the plastic object was, how large it was, or how it got into the products.
This week, the FDA gave the recall a Class II designation, which means that the products could lead to ‘temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences’ but not serious health issues or death.
Foreign objects like soft plastic film can cause several dangerous health effects, mainly choking hazards.
Plastic can easily become lodged in a person’s throat, especially a young child or older adult, as they can have issues swallowing.
Sharp pieces can also tear parts of the digestive tract, leading to internal bleeding and infection.
Additionally, plastic objects could contain harmful chemicals like BPA, which has been linked to infertility, heart disease, and some forms of cancer like breast and prostate.
The recalled products had a use-by date of January 10, 2026, and were under lot code 24193-WL4 and UPC number 705599019203. About 7,300 boxes were impacted.
The recall impacts the Midwest’s 114 Costco warehouse, nearly one-fifth of the stores in the US.
Those who purchased the affected waffles can return them to their local Costco for a refund.
