Offline mode is coming to Android smartwatches very soon
Google Maps users have relied on the feature while travelling to remote areas where the network is unavailable and they can download the directions.
Google is expanding the capabilities of its navigation tool, Google Maps to its wearable devices. According to reports, the tech giant recently launched the Pixel Watch 3 with offline Google Maps Support and will soon be available for all other WearOS devices. This feature will allow users to navigate with the smartwatch even without an internet connection.
The new feature can be found in Google Maps for Wear OS Beta version 11.140.0701.W on the Pixel Watch 2 and it is expected to be added to other Wear OS watches soon, as per the report.
After updating to the Beta Version, the users will see a banner that reads, “Offline maps on the phone are auto-downloaded to the watch.” The app will also show a new Offline maps button located just above the Settings option.
The report also suggested that besides syncing any offline maps that are already on the smartphone, the watch app will automatically download a map of the user’s area.
Additionally, the new feature will also give the users an idea about how much space a downloaded offline map is taking on their device and let the users delete the maps with a single touch.
However, the offline maps will not offer the same number of features as compared to the online maps but it would offer a dependable backup for people traveling into new or distant places.
Recently, the tech giant introduced six new features to its Maps tool for its users in India. It includes Flyover Navigation, AI-powered Narrow road avoidance, Metro ticket booking, EV Charging station integration and Reporting of road closures.
Taking a flyover or not has been a common problem for users in India. To address this issue, Google Maps will now highlight flyovers along with recommended routes in 40 Indian cities which will help the drivers better prepare for upcoming elevated roadways during their journeys.
Apart from this, Google also collaborated with local experts to curate a list of recommended places in ten major cities and tourist spots to enhance the exploration experiences for the users. These features are available on Android, iOS, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.
