As Jimmy Carter nears his 100th birthday and remains in hospice care, Jason revealed that his grandfather is eager to cast his vote for Kamala Harris

On the second night of the Democratic National Convention, Jason Carter, grandson of former US President Jimmy Carter, took to the stage to highlight his grandfather’s enduring legacy of public service. Speaking to an enthusiastic crowd in Chicago, Jason, who chairs The Carter Center co-founded by his grandparents, shared a heartfelt message about the values embodied by his grandfather and Vice President Kamala Harris.

Jason, 49, began his address by reflecting on his grandfather’s contributions. “For my grandfather, it was never about fame, recognition, accolades, or awards,” Jason said. “His legacy is measured by the lives he has touched and the good he has done.” He drew a comparison between Jimmy Carter’s commitment to service and Harris’s approach to leadership.

As Jimmy Carter nears his 100th birthday and remains in hospice care, Jason revealed that his grandfather is eager to cast his vote for Harris in the upcoming US presidential election. “My grandfather can’t wait to vote for Kamala Harris,” Jason told the audience. “She reminds us all that the promise of America remains unchanged. We are one nation, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all, and my grandfather knows that with her as our next president, we will keep that promise.”

Jason also updated attendees on the former President’s health condition. “Papa is holding on, he is hopeful, and though his body may be weak tonight, his spirit is as strong as ever,” Jason said.

Former US President Barack Obama will deliver the keynote address on the second day of the convention, capping off Tuesday’s events after speeches by former First Lady Michelle Obama and Second Gentleman Douglas Emhoff.
