Apple does the reissuing of updates when there is a major security risk

Apple offered the iOS 17 update version earlier this month but now iPhone are getting the update once again before the big release of iOS 18 in September.

Apple has re-released an updated version of the iOS 17.6.1, just ten days after its initial launch, to fix a major security issue in iPhones. The new version has the build number 21G101 and it resolves a bug that previously prevented users from enabling or disabling Advanced Data Protection. This iOS 17 version was originally offered on August 7 but had to be rolled back.

According to the tech giant, “Advanced Data Protection is designed to maintain end-to-end encryption for shared content as long as all participants have Advanced Data Protection enabled. This level of protection is supported in most iCloud sharing features, including iCloud Shared Photo Library, iCloud Drive shared folder and shared Notes.”

Even though the advanced data protection was active on iCloud, some users who installed the iOS 17.6.1 update were prevented from enabling it. However, with the release of this new update, the company was able to fix this bug.

As per 9To5Mac, most iPhones and iPads appear to have received the new iOS 17.6.1 update as an OTA download from the Software Update screen within the Settings app.

In other news, Apple recently announced the iOS 18 Public Beta 4 with new features, bug fixes and system stability improvements. With the new Beta update, the company has renamed the Browse tab in Apple Music, which allows users to search for artists, genres, albums and playlists to New. Also, one of the major updates in Beta 4 is a dedicated Bluetooth Control Toggle for iPhone’s Control centre which allows users to turn Bluetooth On/Off simply by the control page or by the lock screen.

Note that to install the iOS 18 Beta 4 Version, users need to sign up for the Apple Beta program through the official website by entering their Apple ID and Password.

Apple is expected to share more details about the availability of iOS 18 and its AI features along with the much-awaited iPhone 16 series next month but we are yet to see Apple confirm the official details for the event which should happen soon.
