Harris holds slight leads over Trump in key ‘blue wall’ states, showing potential for a strong electoral path in upcoming elections
US Vice President Kamala Harris holds a slight lead over former President Donald Trump in key battleground states crucial to her presidential campaign, according to a new Marist Poll released on Friday, less than a week before the elections.
The poll indicates that Harris is leading in ‘Blue Wall’ states, a term that refers to a group of Midwestern states that traditionally vote Democratic in presidential elections. The Democratic nominee is ahead by 3 percentage points in Michigan and 2 points in both Pennsylvania and Wisconsin, The Hill newspaper reported.
In Michigan, Harris leads Trump 51% to 48%, although this represents a slight decline from her 5-point lead in September. However, she has improved her standing among independent voters, increasing her margin from 2 points to 6 points.

Pennsylvania
In Pennsylvania, Harris has gained ground, polling at 50% compared to Trump’s 48%. This marks an improvement from September when both candidates were tied at 49%. Notably, Harris has made significant strides with independent voters in Pennsylvania, now leading by 15 points, a stark contrast to Trump’s previous 4-point lead in that demographic.
Wisconsin shows similar results, with Harris leading Trump by 50% to 48%. This reflects a slight increase from her previous 1-point lead. While she has gained support among independents here as well, her margin of 6 points still trails Biden’s impressive 12-point lead among independents in the state during the last election cycle.
Marist Poll
The Marist Poll also reveals a notable gender gap across these states. Harris leads among women by margins of 11 points in Michigan, 8 points in Pennsylvania, and 12 points in Wisconsin. Conversely, Trump holds an advantage among men, leading by 6 points in Michigan, 4 points in Pennsylvania, and 9 points in Wisconsin.
Overall, the gender gap is significant but has narrowed compared to the previous election cycle. According to The Hill, the polls were conducted from October 27-30 among likely voters: 1,214 in Michigan, 1,400 in Pennsylvania, and 1,330 in Wisconsin. Each state’s margin of error is approximately 3.4 to 3.5 percentage points.
