Chhath Puja, one of the most significant Hindu festivals, is celebrated annually, six days after Diwali. The festival is primarily observed in Bihar, Jharkhand, eastern Uttar Pradesh, and parts of West Bengal. Chhath Puja holds immense religious and social significance, as devotees follow the rituals for the well-being of their children and families.

The festive day is dedicated to the Sun God, or Surya Dev, who is believed to be the source of life on Earth, and his sister Shashti Devi, who is popularly known as Chhathi Maiya.

This year, the festival will be commemorated from November 5 to November 8. During this period, devotees observe strict fasts and offer prayers to the Sun God and Chhathi Maiya to seek blessings for their children and families.

The Chhath festivities commence with the ritual of Nahay Khay, performed two days before Chhath Puja. This includes rituals such as taking a holy dip in a nearby water body. The celebrations culminate with the offering of ‘Arghya’ to the rising sun.

Chhath Puja is celebrated on the Sasthi Tithi, or sixth day, of Shukla Paksha in the month of Kartik, as per the Hindu calendar.
