On this day, people take holy baths in sacred rivers, worship Surya Dev (the Sun God), Lord Krishna, and their ancestors (Pitras). Rituals such as Tarpan, Pind Daan, and charity for ancestors are performed on this day, believed to relieve sorrow and bring blessings from the ancestors.

When is Margashirsha Amavasya in 2024?

According to the Panchang, the Amavasya Tithi of the Krishna Paksha in Margashirsha month begins on Saturday, November 30, 2024, at 10:29 AM, and ends on Sunday, December 1, 2024, at 11:50 AM. Based on Udaya Tithi (sunrise calculation), Margashirsha Amavasya will be observed on Sunday, December 1, 2024.

Sukarma Yoga on Margashirsha Amavasya 2024

This year, the Sukarma Yoga coincides with Margashirsha Amavasya. Sukarma Yoga will prevail from early morning until 4:34 PM, after which Dhriti Yoga will begin. Sukarma Yoga is considered highly auspicious for performing good deeds. Additionally, Anuradha Nakshatra will remain active until 2:24 PM, followed by Jyestha Nakshatra.

Significance of Margashirsha Amavasya

On this day, devotees observe fasts and worship Lord Krishna. Worshiping Goddess Lakshmi on the night of Amavasya is believed to bring happiness and prosperity to the household. Devotees chant Lord Krishna’s mantras and worship Aryama, the deity of ancestors, to bring peace to the souls of the departed.
