Euphoria star shocks fans with unrecognisable ultra-slim selfies, fuelling Ozempic rumours

Barbie Ferreira, a star in the Netflix hit Euphoria, has shocked social media with pics of her incredible weight loss transformation.

In a photo recently posted online, a radically thinner Ferreira is seen posing in a mirror adding fuel to speculation she could have taken the diabetes medication Ozempic as weight-loss aid.

Fans were quick to point out the stark differences in the 27-year-old actress’ body shape comparing the recent snap to pictures of her from a few years prior.

One wrote on the social media platform X that ‘Barbie Ferreira took the substance’ a nod to the recent horror film of the same name where an ageing movie actress takes a mysterious serum to become more beautiful.

Others hailed her ‘amazing’ transformation, adding she was ‘unrecognisable’. Some also commented on viral posts that ‘Ozempic is one hell of a drug’.

It remains unclear if Ferreira has actually taken Ozempic, Mounjaro or Wegovy, the dedicated weight-loss drug that contains the same active ingredient semaglutide.

Sources close to the star — who played Kat Hernandez in the HBO drama — have previously claimed she has slimmed down to show the world that she is determined to succeed in the industry after leaving Euphoria.

‘Since she quit Euphoria, the opportunities have been drying up for Barbie and she knew that a reinvention was necessary to maintain longevity, the sources told MailOnline’s sister publication DailyMail.com.

They added: ‘In order to get roles in Hollywood, you’ve got to look the part and as shallow as that sounds, it is, unfortunately, true.’

A second source added: ‘Whether she did Ozempic or lost weight by other means, she is loving all the attention from it. It wouldn’t surprise anyone if it was Ozempic though.’

Ferreira herself told spoke last year on her departure from the show and a desire ‘not to portray the fat best friend’.

A number of female stars have already admitted to using Ozempic, a diabetes medication, which can be prescribed ‘off-label’ for weight-loss.

Rebel Wilson lost 80lb in four years to reach her goal weight of 165lb (11st 8lb). She shed most of the excess in 2020, calling it her ‘year of health,’ and putting it down to healthy eating and exercise.

However, while promoting her memoir, Rebel Rising, she admitted to using Ozempic briefly after she had lost weight, to help maintain her new shape.

Talk show host Oprah Winfrey, 70, also admitted to using ‘weight loss medication’ in December.

Earlier this month, TV network HBO confirmed that Euphoria will return for a third season and go back in to production in 2025.

The network shutdown recent claims that the hit drama series — which stars the likes of Zendaya, Maude Apatow, Jacob Elordi and Sydney Sweeney — could be cancelled, amid rumors that members of the star-studded cast were walking away from the TV show.

A representative for HBO told The Independent: ‘Euphoria is going in to production in 2025. Nothing has changed.’

The teen drama series has been a huge hit with fans and critics since it launched in 2019, and its continuation has relieved fans.

Euphoria has also proven to be a career launching pad for several cast members, including Jacob and Sydney, who recently admitted that she loved playing the part of the troubled teen Cassie Howard.
