Comedian-actor Vir Das made headlines earlier this week for being the first Indian to host the prestigious International Emmy Awards. In his almost six-minute monologue, Das didn’t shy away from taking jabs at a variety of topics, from the entertainment industry to global politics.

The 52nd edition of the International Emmy Awards took place in New York on Monday, with Das delivering his humorous and satirical monologue to an audience of global stars.

One of his wittiest remarks were directed at US President-elect Donald Trump and tech billionaire Elon Musk, which drew laughs from the star-studded audience as he mocked them.

Referring to Trump’s return to power at the recently held US Presidential election, Das sarcastically said, “You have picked someone to lead you, to make all of your decisions and be the most powerful person in the world, and I think you chose well.”

Das went on to make tongue-in-cheek remark about Musk’s influence on American politics. “Yes, he says erratic things, but he’s intelligent, successful, and an amazing businessperson. Guys, Elon Musk is a legend,” he joked.

In another cheeky remark, Das noted, “Technically, it’s self-driving, but ultimately, I have control,” referring to the Tesla owner. “Keep Elon Musk happy. Alright? He will buy your platform and turn it into a podcast.”

This isn’t the first time for Das at the International Emmys. In 2021, he was nominated for his special Vir Das: For India, and in 2023, he won an award for his Netflix special Landing. His appearance at the international award ceremony solidified his standing as one of India’s most successful comedic talents on the global stage.
