Jordan North takes a brutal swipe at his former Radio 1 show as he boasts about rise in Capital listening figures during Saturday Kitchen appearance

Jordan North took a brutal swipe at his former BBC Radio 1 show as he boasted about the listening figures for his Capital Breakfast show.

The radio DJ, 34, quit his Radio 1 show back in February after 10 years at the station after he was offered to replace Roman Kemp’s position at Capital.

However, Jordan appeared to hint at a feud with his BBC Radio 1 bosses as he shouted: ‘We are beating Radio 1’ during his appearance on Saturday Kitchen.

Joined on the cooking show with his co-hosts Sian Welby, 38, and Chris Stark, 37, Jordan explained listening figures have increased since he took over the show in April.

He then added that they have a greater number of 15-24 year olds listening to their breakfast show in comparison to Radio 1.

He told host Matt Tebutt: ‘Since we started in April the figures are up so we are doing alright.’

Matt then added: ‘So what the listenership is three million,’ as Jordan added: ‘Yeah it’s nearly half a million that we have added on.’

‘We are beating Radio 1 on younger audiences as well,’ he added as Sian let out a cheer.

Continuing to boast he said: ‘We have got more 15 to 20-year-olds listening to Capital Breakfast,’ as Matt joked: ‘You know your figures and he winked and agreed: ‘Oh, I know.’

As Chris tried to start speaking and divert the conversation, Jordan winked again as he put his hands around his mouth as he shouted across the studio: ‘We are beating Radio 1!’

Hinting at a feud, Matt probed: ‘Did you leave on good terms?’

Laughing Jordan waved his hand in the air as he insisted: ‘We’re fine, we’re fine,’ before once again shouting: ‘We’re beating them!’

It was previously reported that Jordan – who was replaced by Jaime Laing – had been left blindsided by the news of his Radio 1 departure.

The Mirror claimed that the news he was leaving the show was a ‘shock to him’ as information about the departure ‘was issued without his knowledge in chaotic scenes’.

The publication reported that he had unwittingly already presented his last episode of the show by the time his departure was announced.

Tensions had reportedly been high ‘for months’ about his departure after he let producers know he wanted to leave.

However Jordan later claimed in April that he hadn’t planned to leave until he was offered the role of replacing Roman, admitting: ‘You don’t turn down Capital Radio!’.

He went on to tell The Sun: ‘I know that sounds corny but it’s a massive breakfast show. I told three people, because I had to keep it quiet, and they all said, “Go for it'”.

‘I have loads of good friends [at Radio 1]. When I rang [former co-host] Vick [Hope]  she was great. They all texted me before the first show’.

Adding: ‘Greg James said “Good luck”, They pit us as rivals but really we’re all mates.’
