India’s senior pacer, Mohammed Siraj was in quite the mood when he came up to bowl in the practice game against the Australia Prime Minister’s XI at the Manuka Oval in Canberra ahead of the pink ball Test in Adelaide.

What was supposed to be a 2-day practice game, ended up being cut short due to rain playing spoilsport on the first day. The two teams had agreed that they would play a 50-over per side game instead to ensure that both teams could practice with bat and ball.

Having won the toss, Rohit Sharma chose to bowl first. Siraj was handed the new pink ball to start the proceedings and was up against the opening batter, Matt Renshaw. However, his delivery was cut short due to the batter being distracted by security personnel standing by the sight screen.

Frustrated by the interruption, Siraj said, “Oh bhai garden mai ghoom raha hai kya. (Brother are you roaming around a garden?”

Siraj’s comment is about the skipper Rohit’s famous line that went viral during the England Test series at home.

After the brief halt, the game resumed and Siraj did not take long to pick up his first wicket. He struck in the penultimate ball of the fifth over where Renshaw edged the delivery to the slip fielder, who took the catch.

Fellow pacer, Akash Deep also struck in the next over where he got Jayden Goodwin with an edge to the keeper. However, rain came in yet again to play spoilsport. Despite it being a brief interruption, the loss of time resulted in the overs being reduced to 46 overs per side.

India will hope that they can get the most out of this practice game with the pink ball ahead of the Adelaide Test. With a 1-0 series lead, India will look to extend this further to keep their World Test Championship finals hopes alive.

For India to confirm their spot in the final, they would have to win four Tests and draw one in the ongoing five-match series. They are already on the right track but the rest of the games will not be an easy affair considering that Australia are no pushovers, especially on home conditions.
