Woman’s Thanksgiving stunt has everyone saying the same thing

A woman has been called out online after she filmed herself passing her elderly neighbor a Thanksgiving meal over a fence in a bizarre nighttime exchange.

Instagram users roasted the content creator, known as Sarah Sullivan, after she shared footage of herself passing a large meal to the woman while accepting a Tupperware in return.

The video starts with a shot of Sullivan carrying the plate of fried chicken, vegetables and potatoes with gravy, with the caption ‘bringing my 69-year-old neighbor Debby Thanksgiving dinner over the fence’ overlaid.

Sullivan then switched the camera view to show her elderly neighbor wearing a nightgown with her arms outstretched to exchange their meals.

The content creator continued filming as the woman retreated back to her home after the interaction.

Her video was shared on an aggregation account, and it appears to have been deleted from Sullivan’s own socials after viewers blasted the good-deed stunt.

‘So u need to record it for strangers to give u validation for doing something nice?’ one person wrote, while others agreed: ‘How humble of you to film and share this.’

‘Things like this shouldn’t be recorded if it comes from the heart,’ one viewer noted. ‘What a sad, sad, world,’ another person said.

Others parodied Sullivan, with one viewer saying: ‘hold on Debby..let me record this first for the innanets.’ ‘Gotta film it for the credit,’ another person piled on.

Several people said Sullivan should have invited the elderly lady over for dinner rather than orchestrating the backyard exchange.

‘INVITE HER OVER RIGHT NOW,’ one person wrote, while another said: ‘Get that camera out of her face!’

Some people noted the sad end to the video where the lady disappears into the night by herself.

‘Her disappearing into the darkness’ one viewer wrote with three crying-face emojis. ‘I’m gonna cry.’

‘I think the filming was more important than the giving unfortunately,’ another person surmised.

Critics of so-called ‘kindness content’ like Sullivan’s video argue that recording another person and sharing a video of them online to gain social media clout is problematic.

Content creators can also make money off the views they get on individual videos.

Sullivan appears to have deleted the original video from her social media accounts.
