Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Donald Trump’s first meeting after the latter’s inauguration as US President was marked by several special gestures, showcasing new scale and scope to the India-US relations.
During his two-day official visit to the US, PM Modi arrived at the West Wing lobby of the White House in Washington, DC, on Thursday, where Trump greeted him with a warm hug and said, “We missed you a lot.” In response, PM Modi also expressed his happiness at seeing him.
In a special gesture, Donald Trump then gifted PM Modi a book titled “Our Journey Together” and signed it saying “Mr. Prime Minister, You Are Great”. Trump also showed pictures of him and First Lady Melania Trump from the “Howdy, Modi!” and “Namaste Trump” events.

I believe that in your second term, we will work with more speed,” he said, adding that echoes of successful rallies like Howdy, Modi! in Houston and Namaste Trump in Ahmedabad are major statements when it comes to the India-US relationship.
PM Modi, one of the first world leaders to visit the US since President Trump’s return to the White House, met with both the US President and billionaire Elon Musk on Thursday. The meeting took place just hours after President Trump announced reciprocal tariffs on all countries, including India.
